What Is a Dental Emergency
— And Do You Have One?

A dental emergency is any situation where pain, infection, or damage requires immediate treatment — not next week, not tomorrow. Today.

When a tooth is cracked, infected, or abscessed, every minute feels unbearable. Eating is impossible. Focus is gone. Over-the-counter pain meds stop working. That’s your body telling you this needs to be addressed now.

Our emergency dental team moves fast: diagnosing the source of your pain, explaining your options clearly, and getting you comfortable before anything else. Whether it’s a root canal to save the tooth, a targeted extraction, or a same-day exam — your relief is the mission. As your trusted emergency dentist serving North Hollywood, Studio City, Burbank, and Los Angeles, we’re here when you need us most.

Are You a Candidate for
Emergency Dental Care?

Emergency dental care isn’t just for knocked-out teeth. If you’re in serious pain, can’t eat, or notice swelling — you qualify. Here are the most common situations we treat as same-day emergencies. If you’re looking for an emergency dentist in North Hollywood, Studio City, Burbank or Los Angeles, you’ve found the right place.

01
💥
Scenario 1
You Bit Down and Felt a Crack
Something crunchy, a piece of ice, or even just an awkward bite — and now there’s a sharp, shooting pain every time you touch that tooth. Cracked teeth expose the pulp and nerve to bacteria. This doesn’t get better on its own.

02
🤕
Scenario 2
Your Face Is Swollen and You Can’t Eat
A visible bump or swelling near a tooth, along your gumline, or on your jaw is a classic sign of abscess. The infection is under pressure. Eating on that side is unbearable. You may have a low-grade fever.
Dental Abscess Infection Urgent
03
🥺
Scenario 3
You Haven’t Slept in Days from the Pain
Ibuprofen used to take the edge off. Now it barely helps for an hour. The pain is constant, throbbing, and radiating into your jaw, ear, or head. This level of pain almost always means nerve involvement.

04
🥶
Scenario 4
Hot or Cold Sends a Shock Through Your Tooth
You can no longer drink anything cold or hot without a sharp electric jolt shooting through that tooth. Sensitivity this severe means the protective enamel is compromised and the nerve is exposed.
Exposed Nerve Deep Decay High Priority
05
🩸
Scenario 5
Bleeding That Won’t Stop After Trauma
Whether from an accident, a fall, or a sports injury — persistent bleeding from the gums or socket, a loose tooth, or significant pain after trauma needs immediate professional evaluation.
Dental Trauma Loose Tooth Urgent
06
💊
Scenario 6
Over-the-Counter Meds Have Stopped Working
When you’re doubling up on pain relievers and still in agony, that’s a clear signal the underlying problem has escalated beyond what medication can manage. You need treatment, not more Advil.

We always do our best to give you the most accurate picture possible and will never proceed without your approval.

Swift relief when a tooth can’t be saved

Wisdom Tooth Extractions Available Complex and impacted wisdom tooth extractions are performed by our oral surgeon, Dr. Sadaat — right here in our office, no referral needed.
When You Need This
  • Severely cracked or broken tooth

Questions About Emergency Dental Care

We know emergency situations come with a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. Here are the questions we hear most often answered honestly.Call our office and one of our team members will be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you have.

In most cases, the same day you call. We hold slots daily specifically for emergency patients. If you call before noon, you’ll typically be seen that afternoon. Call us first — our team will find you the earliest possible time.
No — and this is one of dentistry’s most persistent myths. A root canal removes the nerve that’s causing your pain. Modern techniques and anesthesia mean most patients feel pressure but no pain during the procedure. The pain you feel before the root canal is almost always worse than the procedure itself. Most patients are genuinely surprised by how comfortable it is.
We accept PPO insurance and offer flexible payment plans to make treatment accessible for every patient. We will always present your complete cost and payment options before any treatment begins. Our goal is to make sure cost is never the reason someone stays in pain.
Unfortunately, no. Unlike broken bones, teeth cannot heal themselves. A crack will not close or regenerate. Left untreated, the crack deepens, bacteria enter, and the nerve becomes infected — turning what could have been a simple crown or root canal into an extraction situation. Early treatment is always better.
If you experience difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling spreading to your neck or eye area, or a high fever above 101°F alongside tooth pain, go directly to an emergency room. These can be signs of a spreading infection that is life-threatening. Call 911 if needed. For all other dental pain and swelling, call us first at (818) 766-3775.
To manage pain before your visit: take ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed — or alternate them every few hours if safe for you. For swelling, apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for 20 minutes on, 20 off. Do not apply heat. Avoid hard, hot, or cold foods on the affected side. Clove oil applied to the tooth can also provide temporary topical relief.
Yes, we do — though calling ahead is always faster. A quick call lets us confirm availability, have your paperwork ready, and sometimes get you in before a slot even opens up. Walk-ins are seen as capacity allows. Either way, we will do our best to see you the same day.
